What to check in a moving quote

Two amounts can be compared when they describe the same move. First check what is included and what remains unresolved.

A moving quote should let you recognise your move: which items are carried, from where, to where and under what conditions. If it only shows a figure, ask for the work to be detailed before deciding. A calculator’s estimate does not replace that company proposal.

For overland moves governed by Spanish Law 15/2009, Article 73 requires the carrier to provide a written quote before starting, setting out the services, their costs and the total price. It must also specify whether the costs of any necessary procedures and permits are included. Once accepted, that quote proves the existence and content of the contract.

AppearanceWhat to clarify
InventoryFurniture, boxes and pieces being transported
AccessFloors, lifts, stairs and route to the vehicle
PackingWho packs the boxes and which protections are included
DisassemblyWhich furniture is disassembled and reassembled
DatesPlanned date, time window and confirmed availability

Do not assume services mentioned only by phone are included. If you ask for a wardrobe to be taken apart, also confirm reassembly at the destination and the conditions of that work. If you will pack some boxes yourself, specify which ones and when they will be ready.

Compare two proposals without losing their differences

Suppose one proposal includes packing and another only covers loading and transport. To decide, you need to align their scope or choose whether you would rather handle packing yourself. Record exclusions next to the amount so you do not forget them when comparing.

Check the final price, taxes, payment method and offer validity directly with the company. Also ask what happens if the inventory, date or access changes. Conditions may vary between proposals.

What to put in writing

Record agreements on delicate objects, arrangements needed for access and possible incidents. If the company mentions coverage or insurance, request its terms and the intended procedure; do not infer specific protection from a generic phrase. Keep the proposal you accept and any clarifications that change its scope.
