A list can change as you open cupboards and finish packing boxes. This example shows how to review those differences before sharing it.
A table and four chairs can appear as a set or as five separate pieces. If you record both options, you count them twice. Decide how to identify each object before calculating the volume, and keep quantities you do not yet know visible.
This inventory is fictional and its dimensions are assumed; it does not represent a real move or the average contents of a home. Replace the measurements and quantities with those you have checked at home.

The first list is not finished yet
This move includes living room furniture, a bed with its mattress and a work table. The bedroom wardrobe stays in the home, but some of its contents will travel in boxes. Seven boxes are sealed and five more are planned. Planning helps with organisation; it does not yet mean that twelve packages are ready.
| Provisional entry | Decision pending | Correction |
|---|---|---|
| Table and four chairs | Also listed separately | Keep only the individual rows |
| Bedroom wardrobe | The furniture stays behind | Remove it; count its packed contents |
| Double bed | Does it include the mattress? | Separate the frame and mattress |
| Boxes: 12 planned | Only 7 are sealed | Distinguish sealed boxes from those still pending |
| Work table | Unchecked catalogue measurement | Check its dimensions |
The bed needs special attention in the list: one name may refer to the frame, the mattress or the whole set. Here they are recorded separately. The same applies to any item you have added as a set and then as several objects. Do not change its quantity until you understand what the entry represents.
Review a room and return to the gaps
- Mark what stays behind. The wardrobe is excluded from transport, even if some of its contents are inside the boxes.
- Check the items being moved and give each one a name you will recognise later.
- Count the sealed packages. Keep those still planned separate, without feeling obliged to fill in the quantity.
- Compare the list with the room. An overview photo can help you spot a forgotten item, but it does not show everything inside the furniture.
- Check the quantities again when you finish packing.
Suppose that, when packing is finished, there are indeed the twelve boxes in the example. Their external measurements are the same. If one were larger, it would need another row: grouping boxes of different sizes under a single set of dimensions would change the calculation. The desk is also confirmed with the measurement shown in the following table.
The reviewed list and its calculation
| Object | Quantity | Measurements in metres | Group volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sofa | 1 | 2 × 0,90 × 0,85 | 1,5300 m³ |
| Dining table | 1 | 1,50 × 0,90 × 0,75 | 1,0125 m³ |
| Chair | 4 | 0,50 × 0,50 × 0,90 | 0,9000 m³ |
| TV unit | 1 | 1,40 × 0,45 × 0,50 | 0,3150 m³ |
| Bed frame | 1 | 2 × 1,50 × 0,45 | 1,3500 m³ |
| Mattress | 1 | 2 × 1,50 × 0,22 | 0,6600 m³ |
| Work table | 1 | 1,20 × 0,60 × 0,75 | 0,5400 m³ |
| Sealed box | 12 | 0,40 × 0,30 × 0,30 | 0,4320 m³ |
For each row, multiply length × width × height × quantity. One box occupies 0,036 m³ in this calculation; twelve total 0,432 m³. The geometric total of the eight rows is 6,7395 m³, approximately 6,74 m³. If only seven boxes were confirmed, the known volume would be 6,5595 m³ and the other five would remain pending. It would be a provisional result.
These figures describe the dimensions used in the example. They do not include a decision about how the items are stacked, how much space is left between them or whether they can travel disassembled. The inventory volume does not prove that everything will fit in a vehicle of that capacity. It does not determine its permissible load or the service price either.
What to attach to the list
Add notes that change how the list should be understood: furniture that needs to be checked before dismantling, a quantity still to be confirmed or an item whose name is not enough to identify it. If the company will do the packing, distinguish your prepared boxes from the objects it still needs to pack. Avoid also listing the contents of a box as though they were travelling separately.
In Calcula y Contrata you can prepare the list and review its volume before saving it in an account. The catalogue dimensions are editable references. Saving and sharing the list are separate steps from requesting quotes. Before sending a link, check its photos, notes and visibility settings.
Keep an identifiable reference to the inventory you showed the company. If you later add a chest of drawers or change five boxes to eight, communicate those differences. An updated link lets the company view the new list, but does not prove that it has reviewed it or that its proposal includes the change.
